This week I was asked to give a short presentation for a Pamper Evening at the Law Society for Friends of the Cancer Centre.
I decided to do my 15 minutes on the beauty of nutrition and thought you might enjoy it.
Beauty is big business.
Did you know the average woman in the UK spends £180,000 in their lifetime on cosmetic products?
We globally spend $12.4 million trying to look prettier and a further $6.5 million chasing our youth.
What is beauty?
Beauty is the cells in your body radiating a light to the world. You feel good, you look good and become an irresistible force. Well, that’s my definition anyway.

Which one of these is the result of a sun tan and which one of these is the result of a health diet rich in fruits, vegetables and berries?
It was through an amazing study on skin health that I became very interested in the effect of good nutrition on how we look. It is through this study that I hope to reeducate and inspire you about how plant based whole foods create simple, sustainable beauty and vitality.
Contrary to the current hype in the media, focusing on potions, creams and air brushing there are beauty tricks that really work.
They are called fruits, vegetables and berries.
Let me explain.
Skin is an organ for excretion of waste, along with lungs, kidneys and colon. Skin is the largest organ, shows emotions, secretes pheromones, reflects beauty and protects us. Your skin takes over when the others get clogged. Your tells your health story.
What ages skin?
- poor diet
- emotional stress
- sun damage
- sleep deprivation
Here are some tell tale signs:
Do you have a vertical line in between your brow? This is an indication of a stressed liver- too many cocktails!
Do you have crow’s feet? That’s an indication of too much processed food
Do you have horizontal lines along your forehead? This is a sign of a plugged up colon.
Toxins come from free radicals
Oxidative stress and toxins come from free radicals. Free radicals in the body increase through smoking, alcohol, pollution, radiation, stress, poor diets, processed food, medication, exercise and stress. The free-radical theory of aging (FRTA) states that organisms age because cells accumulate free radical damage over time. A free radical is any atom or molecule that has a single unpaired electron in an outer shell. While a few free radicals such as melanin are not chemically reactive, most biologically-relevant free radicals are highly reactive. For most biological structures, free radical damage is closely associated with oxidative damage. Antioxidants are reducing agents, and limit oxidative damage to biological structures by passivating free radicals.
Basically, free radicals are bad and can cause premature aging and antioxidants slow this and can prevent early aging.
In addition, this oxidation leads to many diseases and disorders we know such as cancer, heart disease, Alzheimers and diabetes.
And causes wrinkles!
As your skin exfoliates every 30 days, you have a chance to invest in what you will look like a month from now. What comes to the surface is waste laden cells or nutrient rich laden sells, depending on your lifestyle choices.
You can look like a completely different person.
Wrinkles aren’t as permanent as you think.
When I increase my intake of antioxidants through fruits and vegetables and in taking my Juice Plus+, I can see the results in my skin and so can everyone else. I get compliments all the time.
