Stress and emotional eating become such important elements when you are busy and trying to keep all those plates in the air spinning. Here are the tips I follow to keep me on the straight and narrow when I’m busy, under pressure or just flat out.
1. Remove temptation
This is a big one for me. If it’s there in front of me I am more likely to eat it, so I encourage you to try avoid having those items around in the first place- just don’t buy the cookies, chocolate or crisps.
2. Have your default meals ready
We all have our default meals- you know those ones that are easy to make, easy to grab but still a healthy choice. For me, that’s a JP+ Complete smoothie on the run for breakfast, a salad at M&S for lunch or a easy pasta and salad dinner at home.
3. Just breathe
This might sound obvious, but believe me it is not. In the moment before you reach for that cookie or chocolate fix when you are feeling low, tired or stressed. Just stop. Take a second. Breathe. Think about what you are about to do, why you are eating healthy and how the bad choice will not serve you in feeling better in the long term.
3. Have healthy snacks to hand- everywhere!
I am like a squirrel ready for hibernation! I have nuts at home in cupboards, in my office, at my desk, in my handbag. I buy punnets of fruit and keep them on my desk to nibble on throughout the day.
