A recent question from Nadine asks, “I have a full time job and young kids, how can I find time to go to the gym?”
I have to tell you I know exactly where you are coming from as a working mum it is difficult to find time to go to the gym.
Difficult but not IMPOSSIBLE.
Well, it really comes down to what can you do and priorities. And also dispelling the myth that going to a gym is not necessary to get fit or shred body fat or exercise.
This is why I love the kettlebell and have created the whole home based exercise series in my No More Excuses programme.
So my advice to you is, find your favorite home based exercise- stay away from just cardio though (like aerobics) if you want fat loss and results fast- something like kettle bells or body weight exercises is more effective for shredding fat. Even try Davina’s kettle bell workout DVD or go online (try my friend Rocofit on Youtube for FREE videos we love her and she is my inspiration for becoming a kettlbell instructor).
Schedule it into your day i.e. even if you are not leaving the house, even if it is during bedtime for your kids, schedule it in. Put reminders on your phone. Schedule it like’s it a doctor’s appointment, it is THAT important.
Create ‘gym time’ at home, get your gear on as soon as you come into the house or first thing in the morning. Then just make time in your day for 30 mins, three times a week. Maybe even keep a little corner for your kettlebells and mat so it’s easy to grab. Or go crazy and make a mini gym in your garage or spare room, where ever you can fit yourself.
And the final suggestion is get an accountability mummy buddy.
Find another friend whose a mummy just like you and both of you commit to holding each other accountable. Tell her when and for how long you are going to work out each week and then text each other after every session. 3 sessions of 30 mins a week of kettle bells will really make an impact in 4-5 weeks I can tell you! If you are a little competitive like me and my friends then get creative with prizes for the most consistent or a consequence for not sticking with it.
This is why our programmes work here at Mummy Shape School: home based highly efficient kettlebell exercises, 3-4 times a week, starting with 15 minutes and building up to 60 minutes, teaching time management techniques for mums PLUS a whole community of accountability mummy buddies.
And remember, if you goal is weight loss and getting a body you love, it’s 70% nutrition and 30% exercise so don’t forget the clean eating.
