This is why we love MEDITATION here at Mummy Shape School and believe me when I tell you that meditation is also a key skill to dropping pounds! This is why I always do at least 5 minutes meditation at the end of kettlebell classes.
Here’s a little science. Harvard scientists discovered that just eight weeks of mindfulness meditation changes the structure of the brain in places associated with memory, sense of self, empathy, and stress. And researchers at the University of California demonstrated how mindfulness meditation can decrease the amount of the stress hormone cortisol—cortisol secretion causes your body to store fat (it’s that pesky fight or flight hormone that can lead to weight gain around the belly).
The upshot: The study found that people who took part in mindfulness mediation decreased their stress/cortisol response and lost belly fat!
Who has time for mindfulness meditation? YOU DO. WE CAN FIND 3 MINUTES IN OUR DAY, RIGHT?

Probably the most popular mindfulness app, but for good reason. These guided meditations are anywhere from 3 to 30 minutes, you can personalize to have a guided intro and background sounds or not, you can set reminders, and even have it send you mindfulness tips throughout the day. There’s also a store where you can buy added guided meditations by some of the worlds most influential meditation teachers.
You might think that 3 minutes won’t do anything and it’s not worth it. You will never regret doing meditation- whether it’s only 3 minutes or 30 minutes and it’s all about baby steps.
If you can’t get enough sleep (due to the broken nights of being a mum to young kids) than try this for calming and restorative purposes.
