Today, I feel like a Mombie… part Mom, part Zombie.
I’m feeling tired. Yes, I do get tired. I am not just the energiser bunny all day, every day… really.
And from the comments I get in my applications and emails from you mummies in FB land. You are tired too… exhausted in fact with crazy busy days.
So, how are you supposed to add exercising and clean eating into an already exhausting schedule…
It’s impossible?? Right??
I get how debilitating tiredness is. I LOOVVEE my sleep. I am not a morning person and I am one cranky mama bear when I don’t get enough sleep consistently.
What I have come to realise is that tiredness is just a fleeting state of mind- linked to things like fear, suffering, lack of hope and just overwhelm… all of which us mummies are plagued with every day.
It starts when you wake up and you make that quick calculation in your head of how many hours you just had- because the kids were up in the night or you were packing lunches until the late hours- and then you think about how many you hours you should have had and then you panic or suffer about the deficit. (The very thing I did on my FB wall this morning).
So, what I learned from my journey this morning…After about 20 minutes of being awake and getting ready for the school run and gym, I realised I actually felt OK. Not ‘full of beans’ OK but functional.
By the time I had taken my green smoothie and Juice Plus Capsules (with 27 fruits, veg and berries in’m), the antidote to tiredness, I started to perk up.
When I got to the gym and got on the first machine, it was hard going but I told myself, ‘Just do what you can’ then, within 10 mins of listening to cheesy pop music and power walking on the treadmill I was ready to do a solid 40 minutes of kettlebells and some interval training.
I came out of that gym like a new woman, feeling invincible ready to take on the day.
I noticed that once I exercised, focused on what I could do and started to feel my body come alive, it is so much easier to keep giving it the right fuel and easy to stay on track.
It’s about momentum and state of mind. Tiredness, although a physical feeling, is really just an emotional state which is like a mixture of overwhelm, panic, hopelessness and frustration.
This morning my focus was just to make it as far as the next thing I had to do – always telling myself, ‘just do what you can, as best you can’ and the rest of the day I have been carried on a wave of energy and momentum.
So, although it takes ‘effort’ to exercise and ensure you stay on plan with clean eating, the rewards are energy boosting, not zapping.
Even just doing 10 minutes of exercise at home in the morning before work (like swinging a kettlebell) will juice you up for the day.
Getting a green smoothie into you first thing, rather than a caffeine high (which is followed by a caffeine low) will keep you fuelled.
Remember, do what you can, as best you can towards your goal.
Focus on the now, not what you are going to feel like by 3pm.
You see, ‘energy flows where attention goes’ – attend to the present moment and watch your tiredness disipate.
